A fact family is one relationship wearing four hats: 6 × 7 = 42, 7 × 6 = 42, 42 ÷ 6 = 7, 42 ÷ 7 = 6. Students who see it that way learn a quarter as many things — and can recover a forgotten fact by reasoning instead of guessing.

- What is a fact family in math?
- A set of related facts built from the same numbers. For multiplication and division each family holds two multiplication facts and two division facts — for example 3, 9 and 27.
- Why teach multiplication and division together?
- Because they are inverse operations. A student who can turn 56 ÷ 8 into "eight times what makes fifty-six" has a reliable route to the answer when recall fails.
